Drill, specifically UK Drill.
The Drill Music Festival campaign was created as a visual composition for UK rap artists. Drill music is a genre of rap that comes from Atlanta, Georgia. It gained popularity in the UK in the 2000s. The heavy bass, 808s and snares gave this genre a hard-hitting sound. Artists like Central Cee, Dave and Skepta have taken over the UK Drill game. The mix of melody and aggressive rap gave their music a new sound that listeners love.
The “Bass” is the most crucial part of Drill, and “Tings” is a slang word often used in the UK. This word can be used to refer to women or random things.
Men aged 17-22. They are often the biggest fans of UK Drill. They are still growing up at this point, and the music can make them feel bigger than themselves. My designs take into account what would grab this audience’s attention the most utilizing layout and visual focus.
For the logo / main focal graphic, I used graffiti-styled lettering to match the music. I used Illustrator and the pen tool to create the lettering. For the poster, I used Central Cee, who is the headliner, as the centre on the poster. I surrounded him with another artist, Jorja Smith, to contrast him. She would help catch the audience’s attention.
The colours used were bright and eye catching. The neon would grab everyones attention, and the design would make my intended audience look deeper.
Illustrator: I drew my logo and traced it used the pen tool. All my vector graphics were made using pen tool
Photoshop: I composed my posters and billboards with photoshop. I used brushes, masks, and blending modes. I cut my subjects out with the pen tool and brushes.
